“If we are in the hands of a real Master, all the things necessary for 'man to be called man' gradually come out of themselves”

Sri. J.M.Sarma

Dear Respected Pujya Sir, Brothers and Sisters,

I humbly place before you my pranams.

By the grace of the Master, we have all assembled here for this seminar and also for the occasion of our beloved Pujya Lalaji Maharaj Birthday that is on ‘Basant Panchami’ celebrations.

I would like to express my sincere thanks for providing me this opportunity to express my little understanding about Master’s sentence “If we are in the hands of a real Master, all the things necessary for 'man to be called man' gradually come out of themselves’’ and share my views.

The sentence of the Master is taken from the article ‘Method of Training’ from the book ‘Showers of Divine Grace’. 1

While explaining the greatness of our system, Master says “If we are in the hands of a real Master, all the things necessary for 'man to be called man' gradually come out of themselves’’.

I feel and have firm conviction that we are very fortunate to be in the system bestowed to us by our Master and also in the hands of Him. When I thought further, how one should be in the hands of real Master, then I remember our Pujya Babuji Maharaj mentioning in one of his letter to an Abhyasi that

“We submit (give up) ourselves to that ideal just like a dead man in the hands of a dresser (who gives it a bath). He may handle his hands and feet in whatever manner he likes, he (corpse) cannot resist it.” 2

I feel there is lot of effort and responsibility from my side which is must and will make me eligible to be in the hands of Master.

I mean I should do at least following:

1)      Follow His system and do the practices as told by Him in toto and follow His commandments in letter and spirit. His commandments are to be part and parcel of my day to day life and it should reflect in my life.

This is very important role from Abhyasi. Our Pujya Babuji Maharaj says in the article ‘Master who leads to Realisation’ in the book ‘Showers of Divine Grace’

“When you (Abhyasi) have played your part fully well, the Ultimate cannot fall short in playing His part. That is only a beginning of the higher sort of spirituality”. 3

At one more place, our Pujya Babuji Maharaj says in the article ‘Craving of the soul’ in the book ‘Showers of Divine Grace’

“My Master unequivocally declares: ‘Spirituality is my responsibility, as practice is your responsibility”. 4

I feel, it means we have responsibility of doing practices as told by Master and follow His commandments.

2)      The next point is, apart from following practices bestowed by Master, there should be remembrance of Master with love and devotion.

Our Pujya Babuji Maharaj says in the article ‘Way to perfection’ in the book ‘Showers of Divine Grace’

“The general idea that fills abhyasis is that the items of practice taught to them are all that is needed to take them up to the final state of evolution. Their thought does not run beyond this at all. We indicate Raja Yoga as our foundation and it is so in fact, their ideation does not reach down to its depths and it just stops short with the observance of the rules. But it is certain that in Sahaj Marg, the fragrance of Pranahuti indwells, but still the factors that get left behind are Love and Devotion. Along with the act of Meditation, it is essential that these should also inhere therein. It has been necessary for me to stress the mingling of the facets together, since by doing this the Sadhak may be able to reach his goal very soon. It is your responsibility to engender these factors in yourselves. The means consist in endeavouring to maintain the remembrance of the Principle, that is, Ishwar (God).

Even here, the objection can be put forward by some that by this effort the mind gets so tired that perhaps it can retain this only for half a day. Whatever act you do, do it in the thought “It is the Divine's command and therefore it is my duty to do so”, so that the state of remembrance should continue steadfast and one special benefit that accrues is that the creation of samskars (Impression) ceases. Retaining the remembrance of God at all times, engenders in us a deep attachment to the Divine and leads to the state in which love for Him develops and overflows. Gradually through this, devotion attains its full form. It is therefore very essential to adopt this procedure. 5

3)      Continuing above point, the next point to remember is “Love Him who loves all”. The importance of Love is expressed in our system at so many places.

Our Pujya Babuji Maharaj says in the article ‘Love Him who loves all’ in the book ‘Showers of Divine Grace’

“Finally love makes every task easy and paves the way for the shower of Master’s grace to smoothen the way to the Ultimate Goal. “Love is the hunger of human soul for divine beauty”, according to Socrates, and “Love is the inner awakening to Reality” according to me. Love Him who loves all and thus everybody is automatically loved through Him”.6

I remember our Pujya Sir said in one of his talks on Janmastami that

“Love has got various meanings for various people of various ages and climes.  Above all it means sacrifice.  Sacrifice a bit of ours in favour of the other.  Sacrifice more of us in favour of the other.  Sacrifice all of us in favour of the other.  This is how love develops.  We have various examples of love - mother's love, father's love, husband's love, wife's love, children's love etc. All these things are partial, but love for God is full, potent, undivided - it is advaita.  It is not the advaita of Vedanta.  It is not the much brandied out word called advaita. No.  The unity consciousness that we have experienced just now is advaita.  The bliss, the ocean of bliss in which we were merged and continue to be merged is advaita.  It is inseparable, it cannot be divided.   It is unity.  It passes through our hearts.  Mind has no place here.  This is not the realm of the mind.  This is the realm of the heart.  Heart knows how to love, mind knows how to dissect.  So, first give up most of your mind.  It is not an easy task.  That is the reason why I have been requesting all of you to read more and more of Babuji Maharaj.  Let his words sink into our hearts.  Let those words be alone the words that we use on all occasions”. 7

4)      Come out from self and lead a moral life. This is must.

If we recall the sentence of seminar, in the same article, Master says

“The background of spirituality is the ‘Moral Courage’ which rises when one is moral. My revered Master used to say ‘How so ever advanced a person may seem to be, if his moral character is doubtful, I would say that he has not got even a breath of spirituality’. And what is morality in the True sense? It is that all the faculties may come in harmony for proper use. How does this happen? When a man begins to be away from the ‘Self’, it begins to develop.” 8

In one more article ‘Easiest Way’ in the book ‘Showers of Divine Grace’ our Pujya Babuji Maharaj says

“The basis of Yoga has always been the right morals and proper behaviour. That is why; my Master Samarth Guru Mahatma Ram Chandraji Maharaj of Fatehgarh (U.P.) had laid very great stress on this point. He always emphasized on cultivating principled character. The way of life should be pregnant with high morals. If it is not there a person is not capable of having the fine type of spirituality, which is beyond everything and is worth having”. 9

So, there is lot of importance given to selflessness in our system and also one has to be moral in life.

In conclusion, I feel we should do our role fully and have full trust and faith in Master and His system. Master is so kind that His support is there always and will pave us the way to be in the hands of a real Master and all the things necessary for ‘man to be called man’ like selflessness, love and other qualities for expressing Him are gradually will come out from us.

We are also very fortunate to be in great system bestowed to us by our Pujya Master for the transformation of human life. We should utilise our life to the service of the Master and live upto His expectation in spreading His message to one and all.

Once again, I thank you for providing me this opportunity to express my views and understanding about Master’s sentence. I humbly request all of you to kindly pardon me for any mistakes.

My humble Pranams to one and all.
